Sitcom Portrayal Of Homosexuality
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. Prime time television sitcoms often introduce viewers to fringe populations of society whose only real purpose for inclusion is to provide an element of ridicule and sideways disrespect thinly veiled in the form of comedy. The extent to which depiction of homosexuality is not only limited but also skewed is both grand and far-reaching; that typical prime time sitcom portrayals fail to reach beyond the façade of cheap innuendos and site gags speaks to an entertainment culture whose desire is not to provide an accurate or educational representation but rather one that garners high ratings. "Will and Grace" has certainly set a precedent with regard to exposing the general public to an alternative lifestyle many viewers have never fully understood, however, it still lacks significant understanding of the homosexual community by this candy-coated portrayal since the program takes great care to avoid any deeper realities of being gay, lesbian or bisexual. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

Societal Barriers Based on Sexual Orientation, Gender, and Race
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page discussion of the numerous societal barriers and limitations which are put in place on the basis of race, gender, and sexual orientation. Contends that since the advent of the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s, societal restrictions and limitations made on the basis of gender and race have slowly lessened. The reason for this change is the willingness of individuals to stand up for their basic rights, to exert their differences and to insist that there be no societal differentiation based on those differences. While there has been tremendous progress in regard to societal equality of the races and genders, however, there are still many barriers and limitations which are imposed on such factors as sexual orientation. The author contends that these restrictions and limitations can be overcome as well. All that is needed is the willingness to do so and the fortitude to stand in the face of all resistance. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

The Death Of Gay Disco
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Disco's resurgence in that late 1990s has fulfilled one of popular culture's perpetual prophecies: give a particular fad twenty five years to return and when it does, it will be hotter than the first time around. Portrayed as the heart and soul of the seventies, disco was more than just a dance phenomenon; rather it defined an
entire generation. However, a particular element of that generation that was responsible for giving birth to disco is nowhere to be found amidst this revival. Peter Braunstein, author of the article entitled "The Last Days of Gay Disco: The Current Disco Revival Conceals Its Homo Soul," contends that gays and lesbians founded what has come to be the legacy of the seventies. The Legal Right To Marry

5 pages in length. Having a difficult time deciding if same-sex marriage falls into their respective – and very differing – interpretation of constitutionality, state governments have displayed an on-again, off-again relationship with the concept of legality. This 5 page report discusses the 1993 movie
“Philadelphia” starring Tom Hanks. “Philadelphia” is a sensitive

friends, and the people who interact with an AIDS victim. After

The Physical, Spiritual and Emotional Entombment Caused by the Social Stigma of HIV/AIDS
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. The silent sepulcher of stigma in HIV/AIDS reflects the physical, spiritual and emotional entombment faced by those who are ousted by virtue of the social ignorance inherent to their illness. The extent to which this socially-imposed silence impacts every aspect of education by erecting a barrier to learning is both grand and far-reaching; that it also continues to have an influence upon public embracing of prevention programs speaks to a grossly uneducated global society.
