Globalization has Created Two Worlds, Not One
[ send me this paper ]
This 7 page report discusses the idea that globalization at the start of the 21st century has proven itself to actually have created two worlds rather than one. What has also shown itself as commonplace is the fact that the “haves” have significantly more than the “have nots” and the gap that has always existed between the two has widened into a nearly impassable canyon. While economic globalization has had an impact on people around the world so has the globalization of new ways of thinking, producing, and traveling. The end results have not always been positive. Nonetheless, great potential still exists and globalization is integrated will determine the future of humanity. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Gulf Corporation Council (GCC): Crime Law And Capital Punishment
[ send me this paper ]
4 pages in length. The six GCC countries strive to cultivate and uphold the tenets of human rights and in doing so have no reservations about seeking the death penalty for those who transgress against others. The extent to which Sharia (Islamic) law governs this position on capital punishment is both grand and far-reaching; that such crimes as terrorist activity are punishable by death speaks to a collective of nations that takes seriously its governing responsibilities toward achieving greater respect for human rights. Henry Kissinger and the Sinai Accords
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 13 page paper discussing Henry Kissinger’s involvement in the negotiation of the Sinai Accords and the affects of the accords on the Arab-Israeli conflict. The Sinai I and II Accords between Egypt and Israel in 1974 and 1975 were largely the result of negotiation efforts made by U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in his step-by-step process aptly named “shuttle diplomacy” between the two countries. Kissinger spent over three years intervening between Egypt and Israel eventually finding concessions which resulted in Israel’s occupying army withdrawing from parts of the Egyptian Sinai. Kissinger did not want an American presence in the Sinai but eventually both sides agreed to Sinai II only if there was an American civilian presence and American funding for an Egyptian surveillance station to match the Israeli surveillance station on either side of the buffer zone. After Kissinger’s retirement in 1977, progress in the Middle East seemed to stall and negotiations were taken up by President Carter in 1978 with the development of the Camp David Accords. While Kissinger’s peace keeping efforts were applauded, several issues within the Middle East remained untouched including the U.S. non-recognition of Palestine despite its acceptance by the UN. This caused a great deal of additional tension in the area as many of the Arab nations preferred negotiations through the UN and not those initiated by the U.S. Conflicts still continue in the Middle East despite various peace accords over the years and Kissinger himself once commented that the area must find “some solution which balances the Arab need for self-esteem with Israeli security. I’m not sure it exists”. Bibliography lists 9 sources.

A 6 page paper discussing the performance of the International Monetary Fund. In a time when the current role and even the continued existence of the IMF is questioned with increasing frequency and exuberance, news that the IMF generally hands over millions without requiring accountability for the disbursement of funds is disturbing at best. Three points of controversy - conditionality, mission creep and the question of abolishing the IMF - are discussed here. Bibliography lists 11 sources.

Human Rights as Defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and by Islam
[ send me this paper ]
This 6 page report discusses the differences in the Islamic point of view regarding human rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Declaration was composed as part of the United Nations’ framework for member countries as a “common standard.” In essence, its thirty articles assert that “all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.” In comparison, the various Islamic human rights “arrangements” (civil, social, judicial, and political) offer and that rely on Islamic principles and sources, systematically limit, rather than protect or expand, the sorts of civil and political rights found in the Universal Declaration and related international law. And yet, not one voice or one nationality serves as a single representative of all of Islam. It should be noted that the diversity of Muslim views is as great as on any other political issue.
