War And Labor Unions
[ send me this paper ]
24 pages in length. The role labor unions have played with regard to wartime activities has been historically conspicuous. As integral as these unions were when it came to the comprehensive influence of war, they did not always fare well in the aftermath. Indeed, it can be argued that the effects of war often had detrimental consequences for labor unions as a whole. Had it not been for the original formation of the Noble Order of the Knights of Labor back in the mid eighteen hundreds, the American work ethic would have remained chaotic and in dire need of reorganization. The Knights were solely responsible for assembling some kind of organized labor for the American worker, which included higher wages and better working conditions. These tenets had since been fortified as labor unions established more strength within the workforce; however, it can be argued that each time the unions would solidly establish themselves from a previous setback, war would enter into the picture and disrupt that position, particularly World War I, World War II and the Korean Conflict. Bibliography lists 18 sources.

The Jews And The Poles: Defending Themselves Against Extermination
[ send me this paper ]
4 pages in length. In retrospect, was there any action that could have been taken by either the Jews or the Poles that would have materially affected the outcome of the final solution in occupied Poland? Inasmuch as neither the Jews nor the Poles were anywhere as military-savvy or desirous of war as were the Germans, it can be argued that there was truly little that could have been accomplished in order for these populations to avert such a massacre. The writer discusses why self-preservation was not a viable option for the Jews and the Poles. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Differing Views of Stalin
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page review and critique of three articles discussing Josef Stalin: Nove's Was Stalin Really Necessary?, Khrushchev's De-Stalinization Speech, and Toistoya's In Cannibalistic Times. Nove wanders around and concludes that Stalin epitomized the wishes of the Party, but fails to address the fact that Stalin massacred most of the leading Party members when they disagreed with him; Khrushchev makes solid, valid observations on Stalin, but then follows them with saying that Lenin was not such a bad guy, after all. His support of Lenin weakens his stance on Stalin. Toistoya reports on the publication of Conquest's book on Stalin. It was published in the former USSR in 1990, but most reading thinkers had already read it when it was smuggled into the country 20 years earlier. No bibliography.
