Self-Improvement: Norman Vincent Peale's "The Power Of Positive Thinking"
[ send me this paper ]
3 pages in length. Of all the potentially mind-lifting experiences that help individuals overcome bad times in their lives, none is more effective than the overwhelming influence of positive thought. People tend to forget they hold the power over how they respond to a given situation that may confront them. Those who consider daily struggles as 'problems' immediately sidetrack their inherent ability to reach a solution; others, however, who perceive these struggles as 'challenges' immediately being to formulate a plan of resolution rather than dwell upon the negativity of the situation. Norman Vincent Peale, who embraced this approach to everyday life and sought to share it with the rest of the world when he penned The Power of Positive Thinking, teaches readers to eradicate such distracting and harmful factors as self-doubt, stress, worry and resentment in exchange for refocusing upon positive thought. Bibliography lists 1 source.

Self-Perception/Self-Presentation
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page essay that examines the topic of stereotyping and racial prejudice and how this affects the ways in which people perceive each other and themselves. Part of the fabric of culture is that people tend to define what they mean by "people" as those who share the common characteristics of the most dominant group. Even in countries, such as the US, which pride themselves on being "colorblind," there is the unspoken assumption that people of color are "other." In other words, the dominant mainstream defines itself simply as "people" who, being white, do not feel the need for a designation of race or ethnic identity. This feature of society is problematic in an age where populations are extremely diverse, as social forces can affect not only the way that people of color are perceived but also the ways in which they perceive themselves, that is, their sense of self-presentation. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Sexual Harassment: A Psychoanalytical Approach
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page exploration of the psychoanalytical issues involved the growing number of incidences of aggression as they relate to gender. Aggression can take a number of manifestations, one of the most disturbing of which is sexual harassment. The manner in which we explain incidences of sexual harassment has changed over time just as has the ages in which we have observed the behavior. The recent outbreak of sexual harassment among very young children is of particular concern. While Freud would have explained this manifestation as a reflection of sexual instinct, instinct which he contended existed even in infants, contemporary research would indicate that it was more a reflection of a child’s environment and what society condones as appropriate behavior. More specifically, however, such forms of aggression can be attributed to specific psychological problems such as conduct disorder for which there are discernible differences in propensities between males and females. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

5 pages in length. When the student examines whether or not techniques in applied behavior analysis should be influenced by findings of experimental analysis of human behavior, s/he will want to keep in mind the ever-changing scope of psychology and how its perpetual modification helps to employ better assessment and treatment practices.
