Boosting Vietnam's Presence in the World Market

A 10 page paper discussing Vietnam's grudging and slow but inexorable shift to a free-market economy. Vietnam remains communist and shares a border with China to the north. Though its leaders want to remain true to the communist ideology for which so many died, they are faced with the hard facts of the benefits of joining the emerging world economy. The paper examines the economy as it is and the possibilities of taking a globalization route similar to that of South Korea and Singapore: welcoming foreign investment, but according to strict rules set by the government. Singapore provides a model of how the government does not need to yield its ideology to foreign entities. It truly is possible for the government to remain in control of philosophy while allowing the people to enjoy prosperity. Bibliography lists 9 sources.
